TV’s Most Awaited Show – Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is one of television’s most awaited shows scheduled to debut on the 17th of April, 2011. The series is based on George R.R Martin’s fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire (of which the first book is called A Game of Thrones) first published in 1996. The book won the Locus Award and in 1997 and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 1997 and the Nebula Award in 1998. Apart from the TV series the books also inspired several games – a board game, a role-playing game and a trading card game.

The TV series will capture the many plots found in the fantasy book series. In a nutshell, the series accounts the various struggles among kingdoms for the Iron Throne of Westeros. As expected, the show is set in the fictional Westeros.

After buying the exclusive rights to turn A Song of Ice and Fire in a TV series, HBO hired David Benioff to write the scripts and Dan Weiss to executive produce the show. The team started work in January of 2007. The idea is to follow the much extolled novel closely and they seemed to have achieved it. The author, George R.R. Martin, stated that the script was true to his work after the pilot script was written.

  1. Mia says:

Im so excited for this show. Ive been looking into it online for a few months and think it will be a nice break from vampires and the cop dramas and permeate television these days. Don’t get me wrong Im all about True Blood but there hasn’t been a good and detailed fantasy show in my opinion sense Xena and Hercules were on the air. I will be watching and reading every step of the way.

  2. I have not read the book. So I go to the TV show game of thrones directly. I have to

say, it is so amazing that it becomes my favourite show and the most expecting one in next

year. First I was a little scared by those white walkers because they truly look scaring.

Then plots and things go far beyond expectation. Nicely done!
