True Blood: Season 4, Ep.7 “Cold Grey Light of Dawn”
So, the second half of Season 4 has officially begun and the show has shown signs of making some significant changes to its overall storyline. This week’s episode titled ‘Cold Grey Light of Dawn’ was a little more exciting than usual, even though there was a lot more dialogue (and less action) than usual.
The long awaited villain, Antonia has finally made her official appearance on the show and she has even given us a glimpse of what she can do… and what she is planning to do! Antonia completely takes over Marnie who then forces the vampire on guard to set her free. When Bill later finds out that Marnie / Antonia had escaped he finishes off the guard (yes, that’s what they need for a war… few vampires!) but manages to fins out Antonia’s real plan – a full and complete resurrection! I guess it’s only too obvious what she’d want then – to finish what she started in the 1600s of course.
Bill then tells all his sheriffs and vampires to be silvered just in case Antonia casts a spell that would force loose vampires into sunlight. I’m not a big fan of excessive dialogues but somehow this time it helped flesh out the situation and humanize the characters a bit. Bill and Jessica shared a great moment, and we haven’t had too many of these where Bill actually tries to relate some wisdom to her as her maker.
Many other storylines were also adeptly connected to the main plot. Tara waves a teary goodbye to her lover as she sends her back to New Orleans and is later offered a tempting compensation to her vampire woes by Antonia. Tara takes Antonia up on her offer and gangs up with her – well, it’s only natural considering that she was recently attacked by Pam.
Lafayette comes to realize (after channeling the healing spirit of Jesus’ uncle in Mexico) that he is a medium. He also then starts seeing the same black lady that Arlene’s baby saw last week.
Poor decaying Pam has finally managed to get her face back. She has her skin torn off (Ouch!) and has to inject some sort of a medicine in her face multiple times a day in order to heal (Ouch Ouch!!)
As for Sam and Tommy’s storyline – this is by far the most disconnected story in True Blood. Sam finds out about Tommy’s betrayal with Luna and kicks him out. I sure hope they don’t go back to becoming complete enemies!
Now for the biggest cliffhanger on True Blood this week: I always thought that the show would probably have to cut down on some storylines and of course eventually some characters but what I didn’t think was that they would actually do that to one of my favorite characters! Just as Bill expected Antonia gets herself a nice little coven and casts the spell that would force vampires into sunlight.
All the main vampires are weak but securely fastened and all of a sudden Jessica breaks loose! She opens the door and steps out as Jason tries in vain to stop her… and ‘Cold Grey Light of Dawn’ ended right there. So needless to say I’m quite eager to find out what happens to her. You see, Jessica is not a character found in the books. She is purely an Alan Ball creation and there’s only one way we can find out… wait! Like I mentioned before she is one of my favorites and I sure hope they don’t finish her off.
