True Blood: Season 4, Ep. 6 “I Wish I Was the Moon”

True Blood: Season 4, Ep. 6 “I Wish I Was the Moon” This week’s installment on True Blood was all about love, sex and, you know, relationships. ‘I Wish I was the Moon’ was more or less like a detour from the usual pace and action on the show. But I did enjoy the many scenes that sort of explored the depth of each relationship!

I especially liked the way the Eric – Sookie – Bill triangle was turned. It was pretty obvious, with the arrival of the new Eric on the show that Sookie was eventually going to fall in love with Eric. But what I dint expect was Eric to be teaching Bill a lesson! You see the love scene between Eric and Sookie interrupted only to have it continued at the end. I’ve always imagined the two hooking up, since season 1, but I just never imagined them to hook up they way they did. It was a mere physical attraction, an animalistic urge the two of them were responding to; it was much deeper than that…

As much as I enjoy seeing Eric and Sookie together, I can’t help wondering what exactly Sookie sees in Eric. Really all he has is the mere outline of a personality… isn’t he just an empty mind? As for poor old Bill, he learns the hard way that true love is not about holding on but about letting go.

I also noticed that the writers of True Blood seem to have decreased its pace down a bit this season… and I’m not entirely sure if it’s a good thing. While I do enjoy the detail and development of the plot this season, I do miss the curve balls the show threw at us in earlier episodes.

The most riveting part of True Blood so far is the Marnie storyline. I especially like a villain that is well developed. And given her back story, I can say she is the best villain on the show so far! What’s really interesting is that the vampires are in the wrong here in this plot line. Earlier on we found out that Antonia, the spirit possessing Marnie, is that of a witch of the 1600s who was wronged by vampires. She is merely seeking revenge for what the vamps did to her and her people in Spain back in the day. This makes it hard for the audience to take sides… all we can do is wait and watch how the story unfolds!

Some of the other story lines are a little annoying at this point. It makes me realize just how much has happened on the show all by happenstance! Sookie just happened to by driving by Eric right after he was cursed; Jessica and Hoyt happened to be driving by just as Jason collapsed. And now Jessica and Hoyt seemed to have suddenly fallen out of love just so they can facilitate the Jessica and Jason story line. If I remember correctly, Jessica and Hoyt seemed to be crazy about each other just a few episodes ago unless they’re trying to hint that love can be absolutely superficial, I don’t see how logical this change of heart is.

However, I did like the sweet moments between Sookie and Jason. Jason is still trying to come to terms with what had happened to him in Hot Shot and is well aware that he will be turning into a werepanther during the full moon. Quite understandably, he is uncomfortable with this change and Sookie stays by his side for support. True Blood: Season 4, Ep. 6 “I Wish I Was the Moon”

As for Sam and Tommy, it was nice watching the brothers on the same team on true blood, but I suppose that’s not going to last… not after Sam finds out what Tommy did (or should I say who?!) Tommy suddenly finds out that he is a skinwalker, and he transforms into Sam but what can a guy do, when someone like Luna takes her shirt off huh!

Something creepy seems to be going on with true blood’s most stable couple! Jesus and Lafayette are in Mexico where the former manages to summon a spirit just in time too, to save Jesus form a lethal snake bite.

In other story lines, the Alcide and Debbie pairing seems to one of convenience. We all saw the way Alcide looked at Sookie as she ran into the woods with a shotgun! The only interesting part here will be if Sam and Luna’s story intersects with Alcide’s. Luna earlier on tells Sam that her daughter’s father is a wolf. Tara’s girlfriend actually shows up in town this week.

True Blood has never had a shortage of interesting story lines. We were introduced to an overwhelming number of new characters in the previous season… let’s just hope the number of parallel story lines decreases with season 4. Although I thoroughly enjoyed season 3, I thought there were simply too many stories to follow and the main plot was somehow sidelined.

Hopefully they tell us what the curse was (eventually) like in the book. That way it isn’t a random thing of why Eric was running where he was running.
