True Blood Recap: If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’? – Episode 3
Tonight on True Blood Episode 3 “If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’?” we learn that Eric has TRULY lost his memory! Looks like vampires aren’t the baddest bullies on the block – some witches are powerful enough to stop them in their tracks.
Here’s what else happened tonight:
Sookie thinks Eric is simply being difficult when she sees him walking along the road by himself. So she drives away only to have him do his vamp-thang and suddenly appears beside her car. She then realizes something is wrong when he tells her “I know what I am – I just don’t know who I am.” She agrees to help him figure out what happened to him as long as he doesn’t touch or bite her.
Tara is upset that she’s once again been attacked by a vampire. If you’ll remember, last week she attempted to defend Marnie when she was attacked, only to have Eric focus his attention on her. Once she’s done complaining Lafayette attempts to put things into perspective for she and the witches in the coven (as only Lafayette can):
“Bitch, climb down off that cross for two seconds, you don’t think it freaked my shit out?” “It’s not just any fanger it’s Eric Northman, who’s fuckin’ ancient and stupid powerful and can kill all of us. And now he probably will.”
I love Lafayette!
Meanwhile, Jason, who’s been repeatedly bitten by Crystal and Felton realizes they plan to turn him and then use him to make more werepanthers since their numbers are dwindling.
Call me weird, but I’m lovin’ the new more ballsy Bill Compton. In previous seasons I always felt Eric thought he had the upper hand but now Eric realizes Bill isn’t someone to be toyed with. Tonight Bill has to deliver a sentence to a vampire that was caught on film feeding on a human (check out http://vamps-kill.com). According to Bill, that’s against vampire law and as such, he has to be punished. The sentence? THE TRUE DEATH. And Bill is pretty cavalier about issuing the sentence too. Perhaps he’s getting a bit power hungry but deep down I still like Bill. Why? Because I believe he still loves Sookie and that he’s only doing what has to be done to ensure their survival. And as the King of Louisiana he’s in a better position to do that.
After Bill sentences the careless vamp he’s visited by Jessica. She confesses that she fed on a human at Fangtasia which causes him to remind her that if she’s caught doing that on film even he won’t be able to protect her. He then plays the good Dad and tells her to “vamp up” and tell Hoyt what happened. Aw, see, this is what I mean about Bill. He’s really a nice guy.
Sookie then calls Pam to tell her that Eric has lost his memory. Pam does her vamp-thang and rushes over. Eric doesn’t recognize her and Pam realizes that the witches did something to her. She asks Sookie to hide Eric away because if the AVL finds him they’ll want to kill him. sookie agrees but tells Pam she wants to get paid for watching over Eric.
When Jessica goes home Hoyt immediately starts hassling her for being out so long by herself. He then accuses her of bringing back some doll that they threw away. Hmmn, I must have missed when that happened. Anyway, Jessica tells him what happened, he hits the roof, and she decides to glamor him into thinking he’s not angry. She looks sufficiently guilty for doing this which tells us she’s still cares for him.
Okay, we’re at the 30 minute mark (it’s 9:30pm EST) so I’m going to go ahead and publish this post. I’ll keep adding to it as the episode continues!
Sookie visits Alcide, asking him to help her with Eric and discovers Debbie Pelt is back in Alcide’s life. Debbie apologizes to Sookie for trying to kill her and tells her she’s a changed woman. I have to say, Debbie looks like a new woman.
Alcide agrees to help her hide Eric but Sookie decides not to take him up on his offer. Hmmn, Alcide doesn’t seem to happy to learn that Eric is staying at Sookie’s house.
Tommy, still living with Maxine Fortenberry, answers her door and finds a guy there who wants to purchase the natural gas rights to Maxine’s land. He offers $10k per acre to which Tommy has a brain fart or something and suddenly starts negotiating with the guy like Donald Trump.
At Merlotte’s Tara asks Sookie to try to persuade Eric not to seek revenge against Lafayette. Sookie lies and tells Tara that she hasn’t seen Eric because he’s missing. They’re interrupted by Sam who ends up behind the bar sharing a drink with Tara. He wants to make sure she’s accepted his two-natured status. She has. Sam tells her she can camp out at his place if she like; she declines and tells him she’s seeing someone. He tells her “so am I.” I assume he’s referring to Luna (who I don’t completely trust by the way).
They’re interrupted by Jesus who tells them Lafayette has disappeared from Merlotte’s. Jesus and Tara drive away looking for him.
Meanwhile:
-Bill is approached by Portia Bellefleur who propositions him for sex. Bill tells her that he could never love her.
-Jessica gives demon-child Mikey the dirty doll that she and Hoyt tried to throw away. I’m sorry but that doll looks evil.
-Tommy propositions Sam about taking advantage of Maxine and cashing in on her natural gas offer, without telling her about it.
-Portia and Bill have sex.
-Sookie goes back hom looking for Eric and finds that he’s left.
-Turns out Pam is responsible for Lafayette’s disappearance. She’s taken him back to the dungeon where he was tortured but Tara and Jesus come to the rescue. Tara holds a gun on her (with wooden bullets) while they reach an agreement to deliver lead witch Marnie to Pam in 24 hours. If they don’t Pam promises to “eat, fuck and kill” all three of them. One can only hope it would occur in that order.
-Marnie offers a sacrifice to the spirit that gave her the power to put the spell on Eric. She’s not quite sure why she was chosen by the spirit; she slashes her wrist and the spirit appears to her.
-Jason, boy toy, awakens to find Crystal getting busy with him against his will (he’s tied to a bed). We then see there’s an entire line of women waiting to have their turn with him.
-Sookie is visited by Claudine who is still trying to get her to return to fairyland. She tells her that she’s the one that helped her defend herself against the drainers the night she first met Bill. Just then, Eric attacks Claudine and COMPLETELY DRAINS HER DRY.
The episode ends with Sookie telling Eric “you just killed my fairy godmother”. Eric looks at her with a guilty look on his face and says “Sorry.”
It’s interesting watching Eric – he has this innocent, naive way about him that’s pretty endearing. To see the infamous “Bad Eric” here’s where you can Watch True Blood Free Online.
Which do you like best: “Nice Eric” or “Bad Eric”?

To answer the question: Bad Eric is best lol nice eric is like a baby… not that I don’t like babies lol. But wow I’m sooooo happy that this season is starting off completely well!
I like Bad Eric too but Good Eric is really cute, although since he doesn’t know who’s who he’s even more dangerous. Bad Eric understood the politics associated with being a vampire. Good Eric is like a wolf among a bunch of sweet tasting sheep!
I knew it! I knew it ! Bill sent Eric there knowing what would happen. Bad Bill! But I’m liking it. Plus isnt amazing how Eric can look even childish.I like the Nice Eric and teach him to be Evil Eric!! Bua-ha-hah!!! Love the site and see next Sunday !!!!
I like that idea – start out with Nice Eric and turn him into Bad Eric! Can’t wait to see how his relationship with folks like Sookie and Pam will develop.
And thanks for the compliment about the site!
Hello!!
It’s me again, you know I was thinking about the “doll fight” too. Got me thinking its hard too miss if you sit 5 mins. before the episode start. Yep that’s me 5 mins before it starts, I’m siting and making sure everything I need, I have (TV remote in hand. HaHa)So I was sure it was’nt clear what happened with the doll on the last episode.
So yesterday I watch the “re-run” (that’s the right word?). I found the doll!!! When they say : Previously .. on True Blood and they show itty bits of what happened, well they show when Hoyt takes Jessica to the new house, and she kisses him.The camera makes a take from inside a room and shows the floor of the house like you’re watching them from there(remember that?) well the doll’s is on that room floor. But there’s no evidence of Jessica throwing it to the lake, like they explained in the 3rd episode. Anyway, they will show it again tonight in case you want to see the new “girlfriend” of demon-child Mikey trown on the floor.
Well enough detective work lol, See u guys next Sunday ,unless there is a new T.B. mystery, lol!
Belle:
Awesome! Thanks for watching that and solving part of the mystery. I thought I must have missed something because I couldn’t remember ever hearing about that doll.
Now, let’s think about this. Producer Alan Ball usually includes odd things like that in the storyline for a reason. So this makes me wonder what’s up with that doll, why it keeps coming back and why it ended up with demon baby Mikey. This is what I’m thinking: since Season 3 is The Season of the Witch, I’m thinking that perhaps Rene WAS A WITCH! And some kind of way he’s going to be able to perform his evil deeds through the baby. Or, maybe the doll will be some kind of evil Chucky doll that’s controlled by Rene.
Maybe that’s a stretch but I bet we’ll see something weird happen with Mikey and that doll.
I’ll have to re-watch Episode 3 (and tune in 5 minutes before the show) so I can see what you’re talking about. Thanks for letting us know about that!
Hello!
Another mystery ahh my friend, so here I’m. What do you think if maybe, just maybe Mommy Fortengbery has something to do with it? or maybe Summer? Hoyt’s ex-human girlfriend or yes perhaps Renee was a witch and passed his “evil soul” to this doll and since demon-baby Mikey is his son they will have some kind of “click”.Or maybe it’s been used to keep an eye on vampire Jess since she is “daughter” of the new King of Louissianna. I don’t know but there are too many maybes in my mind now. Guess we’ll have to wait and keep an eye on that doll.
C-ya .Take care
*SPOILER* but just a thought…
*SPOILER*
*SPOILER*
*SPOILER*
I think Tommy is gonna kill one of his parent’s (or Sam, which I highly doubt) to be able to turn into a human to become Sam and Hoyt’s mother or he probably won’t even realize that was the reason of him becoming a human [animal] but just a thought ^_^
