True Blood Episode 10 – New World in My View

True Blood Episode 10

Here’s Kitty Kat’s review of Episode 10: New World in My View

The query “What the heck is a Maenad?” linked us all on our journey through season two, and tonight we were “schooled” in the nature of the maenads and the god they serve, Dionysus. High school lit class was never this much fun! Admittedly, the residents of Bon Temps are not better off as a result of this god, but he can’t be all bad. According to Maryanne and Arlene, he likes corn fed Kobe beef and good liquor. I’m having a hard time not liking “the god who comes.” But then again, I’ve got a thing for bad super natural beings. Eric isn’t exactly a pussy cat, but he makes this Kitty Kat purr. Hope Sookie keeps having those sweet dreams!

For those of you who’ve been on the forum from time to time, you know my gal YankeeBlood has a thing for Sookie’s twin, Jason. He was amazing this evening, and from the previews for next week, he’s about to really take charge in setting his home town back to right. Looks like you are in for a treat next week, too, Yankee. Enjoy!

Now that we all know what the heck a maenad is we can move on to answering some new questions. What is up with Eggs? Who is Carl? Why did he have such a hard time “catching on” and why was he trying to turn Eggs and Tara on to Egyptian cotton towels? Egyptian cotton can be great and all, but Maryanne sure didn’t like his timing. Anybody out there think he’s going to play a role in stopping the mayhem?

And don’t even get me started on that glowing hand of Sookie’s!

If any of you have any insights, check out the True Blood Forum (click tab at top to get started). If you are wondering about all that chanting, Fantasy Books has done some great research for us. Hope to see you all there. Keep the comments coming!

  2. Dalton says:

I don’t think Eric’s blood has anything to do with what she did to Mary Ann. What I don’t understand is that Bill wants to know if she can do it again…and it did seem like it stunned Mary Ann for a second…but she laughed and actually enjoyed it afterwards. Perhaps she can see if that bellhop guy with the same powers has ever felt anything similar. Though unfortunately, he barely knows how to use his main mind reading powers as well as Sookie…so one would assume he knows nothing.

I still don’t understand why Sam is the ultimate sacrifice for the Maenad.

And here is my biggest question. Why do only certain people get mind controlled by Mary Ann with the black eyes…but she can’t just easily control everybody else (i.e. Lafayette, Tara’s mom, Jason, Sookie, the drunk cop, or even Sam himself?? She was able to control Daphne who is a shifter? Why not Sam?

    • YankeeBlood says:

Sorry Dalton, but Maryanne was not able to control Daphne. By her own mouth Daphne said that Maryanne has no power over shifters or “supes” in general. They have to come to her on their own free will. So Daphne was never under MA’s control you see, she simply feared and loved MA and wanted to be a part of her darkness.

      • Dalton says:

Alright well what about Jason and the drunk Cop? Do they have something we don’t know about? I remember in Season 1, Jason threw somebody pretty far…didn’t look like human strength. Not sure about the drunk cop though. Lafayette and Tara’s mom? I just don’t understand how Maryanne arbitrarily controls certain people. Sookie, Bill, etc. I get. They’re “supes”. I don’t get the rest.

    • ERICA says:

SHE DIDNT CONTROL DAPHNE, DAPHNE CAME TO HER OWN HER OWN. SHE CANT CONTROL SUPERNATURAL BEINGS SHE HAS NOT TRIED TO CONTROL THE OTHERS AS OF YET.

  3. Dalton says:

Oops and one more. Who is “he” when Tara is all crazy and tied down and says “he’s going to kill us all?”

    • YankeeBlood says:

“He”, is a reference to “the God who comes”.

      • Dalton says:

One would think over the thousands and thousands of years…there would have been a better sacrifice than Sam Merlotte for her God Dyonisis lol but for the sake of myth, lore, and the tv show…I’ll let it slide….

  4. TB lover says:

Sam is the ultimate sacrifice because Maenads want “tribute” from supernatural beings that work around the grape because Bacchus (the Greek god of wine and drunkenness) must accompany the Maenad when she goes before Dionysus and Bacchus demands his portion if he his to go with the Maenad, Marianne needs tribute from the super natural beings that work around alcohol (work in or own bars) in order for the Maenad to appropriately go before Dionysus with a complete offering. The Maenad lusts the collaboration of Bacchus and the ultimate approval of Dionysus.

Sam refused to give Marianne a tribute and he owns Merlotts, a place where alcohol is served. In essence he becomes her sacrifice for Bacchus.

My assumption is that Eggs is really Bacchus and that Tara was an appeasement sexual offering to him until she could get Sam.

dont know what the butler is

  5. TB says:

How can Eggs be Bacchus? His eyes are always black (and those flashbacks he had). If he were a god, why does Maryann have to possess him?

  6. TB lover says:

    Maybe Karl is then.

    I don’t know.

    • Dalton says:

I don’t think Maryann would be slapping around Bacchus though would she? Karl doesn’t have the eyes…so I don’t know if he’s just willingly her servant in order to stay alive or something…Eggs has the black eyes and is mind-controlled. I don’t think either of them are anything really.

Hypothetically…what if it’s Jason. And Sookie is like an Aphrodite type sibling…

Who knows…could be anything as of right now…

  7. MikeTB says:

I have an application on my iphone its called superfan- true blood…. its basically for true blood fans (duh) and there is a chat section where someone asks: “is jason stackhouse going to be a were-panther (which im guessing is something like a werewolf-but panther rather than wolf)like he is in the books?”… i think jason and sookie are both supernatural creatures and i hope every supernatural creature in Bon Temps come clean and share their powers with each other so they can overcome this craziness

    • kitty kat says:

      Hey Mike,

      ***BOOK SPOILER ALERT****
Jason and Sookie are both supes but they don’t know it. They are 1/8 fairy, their grandpa is some sort of fairy prince. This explains the attraction of the vamps to Sookie and her mind reading. The glowing hand never showed up in the books, but humans are attracted to fairies, too. This might explain why Jason is such a man slut. In one of the books Jason hooks up with a were panther from an inbred community outside of BonTemp. A jealous suiter “turns” Jason by kidnapping him and repeatedly biting him. That is where your phone chat is coming from. Hope this helps. Don’t worry, even if you read all the books, you’ll still be in the dark. Alan Ball adds a lot of his own details.

      • Dalton says:

Does this mean that the bellhop boy is also a “fairy” of sorts? And perhaps Jason just doesn’t know his powers right now because he’s so stupid (or portrayed to be). But like I said above, I remember in Season 1 where he pushed somebody (I believe it was the cop?) and he went flying as if Jason had some super-strength perhaps…

  8. TB says:

Back to Maryann. I think Tara is going to be the one to get “justice” (her tarot card) against her

  9. shaunetta says:

You guys need to think spirituality. MA works for satan and only God can stop satan. Not to say sookie is GOD, but have you notice she is almost the closest thing. And in the end sookie is going to be able to stop MA.

    • Dalton says:

Maryanne worships Dionysus (or Bacchus) “The God of Wine”. She doesn’t worship Satan at all actually. Dionysus is also the “inspirer of ritual madness and ecstacy.” Which would help explain all of Maryanne’s sexual drunken parties. Maenads are basically female followers of Dionysus. He is the God she wants to sacrifice Sam Merlotte for.
