Bill Compton is a vampire, turned against his will during the American civil war and Sookie’s love interest. Unlike other vampires, Bill has more compassion for humans probably because he fiercely holds on to past memories from his human life. Although he is not as ancient as some of the other vampires, he is quite powerful and he is willing to risk all of that – his standing in the vampire society and his own safety to protect Sookie from those who want to take advantage of her faerie ancestry.

In season 3 however, it was revealed that all that was merely a ploy to get Sookie’s much wanted faerie blood for the Queen. Bill is seen as someone loyal to the vampire Queen and one who was merely acting upon instruction. Sookie breaks it off with Bill when she finds out about his betrayal. He later faces the vampire Queen in a deadly duel and becomes the King upon her death.

Stephen Moyer is the sexy English actor who plays Bill’s part on the show. Moyer is popularly known for roles such as Mick Benson in Undiscovered and the Editor Alternate Endings. His filmography lists more than 10 movies and 29 television shows, and has also won several awards for his work! He’s probably best known to the American population because of his role in True Blood.

Eric is probably one of the oldest vampires on the show currently. He is over 1000 years old and is said to have been a Viking warrior in his human life. He is a powerful vampire and he also the sheriff of Area 5 (a vampire district.) Eric takes a liking towards Sookie after he finds out that she is capable of reading minds. It is hinted on the show that his family may have been royals of the ancient world. He is always the badass villain trying to trick Sookie into drinking his blood and buying her house while she is away to get her to fall in love with him!

Swedish actor Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård seems to be the perfect fit for this character. Not only is he one of the sexiest men on the show, he is also a fantastic actor. Prior to his role on True Blood, he was popular for his roles such as Meekus in Zoolander and Brad Colbert in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill. He has been acting since the age of 7 and has won several awards for his work in the industry. Skarsgard says he first needs to connect with his characters before he play them. “In a weird way, I always play myself, just through different mirrors. If I read a script and I don’t connect with a character, if I can’t find the character on the page in my soul, then I’m not going to be able to do a good job,” said Skarsgard in an interview.

Sam Merlotte is the owner of Merlotte’s bar where Sookie works and is probably the first supernatural being other than vampires introduced in the show. Sam is a shape shifter and is often seen watching over Sookie in his dog form. He was portrayed as one who adored Sookie and was loyal to her, however things may have frayed a little when she gets involved with Bill. Sam openly disapproves of their relationship and although he had initially supported vampire rights feels that humans and vampires should be separate… equality is another issue altogether!

Sam is adopted as a baby and raised by his adopted parents… until they discover that he is not normal that is! Sam one day (as a teen) comes home to discover that his adopted parents have moved leaving all his possessions behind! He later finds out about his real family from his adopted father while he is on his death bed. Sam is portrayed as one who obviously has temper issues and also has a dark past that no one knows about yet.

Sam Trammel the American actor who plays Sam Merlotte’s role on the show is an accomplished stage actor. His performance in ‘Ah, Wilderness!’ was also nominated for the prestigious Tony awards. “I saw the kind of guys that I thought Sam would be like and those guys wore Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. Any man wearing those things could be Sam Merlotte. Sam is a guy that doesn’t think about clothes. He’s got jeans, boots and the shirts and that’s pretty much it,” said Trammell in an interview.

Jason Stackhouse is Sookie’s brother who is portrayed as one who doesn’t care much about anyone else but himself. Perhaps the only person he is really protective about is his younger sister. Jason was a road crew supervisor and developed quite a reputation for sleeping with the women in Bon Temps. He is also part faerie, but he seems to have inherited a different gift (sexual magnetism) while his sister inherited telepathic abilities.

Ryan Christian Kwanten, the actor who plays Jason’s role on the show, is Australian by birth. He is well known for his role as Vinnie Patterson on the Australian soap-opera Home and Away. He also has several other films and TV shows under his belt and has been nominated in the Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performance.
