Bill Compton\'s Trial

And They Call It Puppy Love: Well, we finally discover why that strange dog kept appearing in so many of the previous True Blood episodes. Once Sookie learns Sam’s shocking secret she starts wondering how much she really knows about the world around her.  I find it amazing that Sookie is so freaked out about Sam’s true nature and the fact that other supernatural creatures exist since she’s so accepting of Bill and his kind.  Can you say hypocrite?

True Colors: Tara goes through with the ritual to remove the evil spirit from her body.  It’s pretty gross at times but also convincingly scary.  Tara is convinced that her inner demon has been removed and celebrates with her mother, Lettie Mae.  However, she soon learns that Miss Jeanette has a secret; her dilemma now is whether she should tell her mother about it and possibly bring about a setback.

She later gets drunk and has a car accident while attempting to avoid hitting a strange woman on the side of the road.  Pay attention to the woman – we’ll see more of her later.  Did you hear the hog sounds?  That’s also important.

Chicken Soup for the Soulless: Amy attempts to convince Jason that they should be nicer to Eddie, the vampire they kidnapped, so they can eventually untie him, keep him as a pet, and have a lifelong supply of vampire blood.

Jason, while talking to Eddie, learns that Amy is only pretending to like Eddie.  This serves to place some doubts in Jason’s mind about Amy.

Jason and Amy argue about what to do with Eddie; Amy wants to kill him because she knows that if they let him go he’ll surely kill both of them (well, at least Amy). Jason’s not a killer so he wants to let him go.  He attempts to do this when Amy attacks Eddie.  This doesn’t end well folks.

I Know What You Did Last Summer: Sookie, while attending Arlene and Rene’s engagement party opens her mind and “hears” some disturbing thoughts related to the recent murders in town.  She’s attacked while alone in the bar but doesn’t get a chance to see the face of the killer.

If The Stake Don’t Fit You Must Acquit: Bill stands trial for killing Long Shadow, the Fangtasia vampire bartender guilty of stealing from Eric Northman, the bar’s owner. Bill is accused of killing “a higher life form” in order to defend a human. The standard penalty for such an offense is 5 years in a coffin chained with silver however the “majester” decides that Bill’s punishment should be more “creative.” He orders Bill to turn an innocent human named Jessica.  The scene that follows is really heart wrenching.

True Blood Episode 9 Plasir D'AmourHere’s what happens in Episode 9, Plaisir D’Amour (The Joys of Love):

Sookie accurately identifies the person responsible for stealing money from Eric Northman, the vampire owner of the vampire bar Fangtasia. Unfortunately, the culprit is a vampire who decides to silence Sookie.

Permanently.

The thief, Long Shadow, gets staked by Bill. Since Bill staked a vampire for a human he has to pay reparations. Eric suggests he give him Sookie as payment but of course Bill refuses. Bill downplays the debt owed to Eric so Sookie won’t worry.

Sookie and Bill return to Sookie’s home to find that someone has killed her cat and hung it from a ceiling fan. This prompts Bill to visit Merlotte’s to seek Sam’s assistance in watching out for Sookie since he (Bill) has to leave town for a while. Sam agrees of course. Turns out Bill is leaving because he has to stand trial for killing Long Shadow.

Eric accompanies Bill to Merlotte’s and informs the townspeople that they (vampires) can sense those that have wronged them. This serves to scare one of the guys responsible for killing Malcolm and his vampire thugs. Note: the Eric in the series is much colder and detached than the one in the books.

Jason realizes how dangerous his situation with Amy has gotten. It’s clear that she’s drained vampires before and he’s scared of what might happen if the vampire escapes. However, after seeing the effect that fresh vampire blood has on Amy, Jason is unable to resist taking a taste. What follows is a graphic psychedelic sex scene full of bright sparkles and New Age music (I say it again, Jason has an outstanding butt).

Later, Amy proclaims her love for Jason. Surprisingly enough, he reciprocates. You know, Amy talks a good game about living a “clean” life by not eating processed foods but her actions make her a big hypocrite. She tries to justify herself by saying “a lot of bad things have happened in my life so I deserve this.”

Although Jason may be fickle at times he’s no killer and he’s definitely not someone that tortures others. Eddie, the captured vampire, picks up on this and attempts to get to know Jason in order to persuade him to free him. This serves to humanize him; it also gives him an opportunity to try to turn Jason against Amy. This doesn’t work but it does plant some seeds of doubt in Jason’s mind.

Tara decides to visit Miss Jeanette, the witch doctor who exorcised Lettie Mae, her previously alcoholic mother. Miss Jeanette tells Tara that her demon is much worse and more dangerous than the one she removed from her mother. She tells Tara that it will cost $799.95 to perform the ritual and that she shouldn’t wait to long to get rid of what’s inside her because it’s quickly becoming a part of who she is.

Sam, who’s really quite sweet, visits Tara’s home to bring her flowers and tell her that he wants them to have a real relationship. Unfortunately Tara rebuffs him and he leaves hurt and angry. However, he later gives Tara the money for her exorcism. Poor Tara, she doesn’t understand why she behaves the way she does. We know that it’s directly linked to her childhood but she may never come to that understanding.

Sookie decides to leave work early to stay overnight at Bill’s place. Sam attempts to follow her but gets intercepted by Andy Bellefleur who’s trying to determine why Sam was seen running naked through the woods. Sam stalls Andy by telling him he needs to get something from the bar; we next see a dog leave from the same door that Sam entered. We then see the same dog outside Sookie’s house who takes him in for the night (thinking he’s a stray) and names him Dean. He’s a pretty dog. Dean settles in for the night at the foot of Sookie’s bed. Sookie wakes up later in the night to find a man in her bed. Guess who it is!

Weirdest Scene: Pam picking “vampire” out of Sookie’s cleavage at Fangtasia.
