Secret Circle Season Premier is Dark and Magical
Finally, the night we have all been waiting for is here! I have been hearing stories about this show and writing up whatever I can find for the last few months, ever since we heard that there would be a television show based on L.J. Smith’s best-selling books. But I was not prepared for how awesome looking the cast would be once you see them in action! This is going to be a very fun show to watch.
The intro piece was great, nice and mysterious to set up the tone of the whole show. Once Cassie is finally in Chance Harbor we get a good look at the gal who just may be my favorite bad girl so far this season on TV, the beautiful and dangerous Faye. And then, no sooner do we scoot our little Cassie into town then, WAM, we see this mysterious and gorgeous hunky body checking Cassie out through the neighbor’s window. All you can think is – hope this guy is a regular!
Cassie the Orphan
Soon more strange things are happening as poor orphaned Cassie (did we mention her Mom was killed in the first five minutes of the show?) goes to school and it turns out the principle was one of her Mom’s BFFs! How often does that happen in your life? But hey- this is television so we go with the flow and wait to see what other strange and mysterious happenings will pop up. Soon the mysterious hottie, Nick, is seen hanging and talking about Cassie to Adam, who we know from the sincere and quiet smile is going to be the “nice guy” of the show. But we got good with that in True Blood, this is a dynamic that is always fun to watch, so I am looking forward to seeing these two battle it out for the heart of Cassie.
It’s funny how you just know that Faye is going to be trouble when she enters the scene. All she says is “So you’re the new girl.” And added “You’re very pretty,” and you just knew this was trouble. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of danger she puts our Cassie in. See – already I am feeling protective about Cassie and I just met her!
Burn Baby Burn
But by far the best scene in the show was when the bitchy Faye decides that Cassie needs some testing to see just how powerful a witch she is by setting her car on fire. Of course, Adam comes to the rescue, we get a chance to see he has powers too, and of course to put Cassie in his arms. Ah Faye, don’t you know you just aren’t going to win this one?
Of course, the circle and its destiny is revealed, to us at least, when Diana goes to Faye’s house to confront her on the bad choice of pyrotechnics. But girls will be girls, they get in a bit of a tiff and we begin to see the pecking order in this group a bit more clearly. And when Aunt Jane and the principle talk about “the trouble returning” again, you just get this big “uh-oh” feeling like even more stuff is going on then you think. Scary stuff for our little Cassie, at any rate.
Strange Houses and Stranger Magic
I have to admit that if it were me and someone I barely knew wanted me to go out in the woods to a strange little house with a bunch of her friends, I would not be thinking they were planning a tea party. So you just want to yell at the screen (which I did) “don’t go Cassie!” when she heads out with Diana to the old creepy house in the woods. Even if you think Diana is the one cool chick, I still wouldn’t have gone. Good thing it was Cassie and not me or we would not have found out about the six families of witches and the destinies written in the family books and all. No wonder Cassie freaks out and runs. And that is a good thing too or Adam wouldn’t have a chance to be in the woods with her. And then we would have never gotten my absolutely top favorite scene in the show where they work magic together and all the drops of water dance around them like little pieces of – well magic! Ah – that was great. And they almost kissed! Adam and Cassie, I mean, not the droplets of water.
But Cassie is still a bit freaked so she has to go around asking more questions and getting a better picture of who everyone is. Of course Diana is I the middle of telling the story of how everyone’s parents died who is in the Secret Circle when Faye shows up and creates a huge storm that just has to get out of control. A great metaphor for our favorite outta control witch. When Cassie tamps it out with barely a thought, it is time to acknowledge she is a witch, and a great one.
A Secret Revealed
There is all kinds of behind the scenes revelations sorta about who is the bad guys and who to get worried about, and then Cassie goes home. Since her home is actually the house where her Mother grew up, it isn’t that surprising that it hides a few secrets. So Cassie has the secret book reveled to her, which is cool because you know she is going to need all the help she can get!
Meanwhile – the bad dude Charlie and the high school principle Dawn seem to be up to no good together. I guess we find out more about them next week!
Can’t wait to see more stuff- and maybe even some serious kissing this time!

I still have not watched this, though everyone says it’s good (though the actress they got to play Diana seems wrong, maybe I can get past that). I read the books, which I recommend, if you’ve not read them.
