If You Like Sookie Stackhouse Books, You’ll Love These

Need to find other urban fantasy books similar to the Sookie Stackhouse books? You know, books that have a female heroine, a bit of romance and some adventure? Well look no further. I’ve put together a list of books that fit the bill. All of the books in the list are recommended reads:

The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost

  1. Halfway to the Grave
  2. One Foot in the Grave
  3. At Grave’s End

Description: Cat Crawfield never met a vampire she didn’t hate. Although she’s half-vampire herself she moonlights as an amateur hunter who uses her feminine wiles to lure and exterminate vampires (okay, she’s got a bit of a father complex). Cat meets her match while attempting to capture Bones, a sexy full vampire who works for a secret organization that kills vampires that have gone rogue. Bones recognizes Cat’s potential and decides to properly train her to utilize her enhanced strength to help him track and kill vampires. As you can imagine, the attraction between them isn’t immediate but that’s part of the wonderful appeal of this series. Cat is a strong-willed individual who tends to be a bit headstrong; Bones’ approach is more methodical and calculating. This makes for some great “opposites attract” scenes. Jeaniene Frost does an outstanding job developing the relationship between Cat and Bones while presenting a fast paced action/adventure storyline. There’s a reason why the first book in the series Halfway to the Grave won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award for best urban fantasy. It’s called great writing. You need to check out all of the books in this fantastic series. And stop by in a few days to enter my book contest where I’ll be giving away a free copy of “At Grave’s End”. For now, go pick up the first two books in the series. Get more info & prices

Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs

  1. Moon Called
  2. Blood Bound
  3. Iron Kissed
  4. Bone Crossed

Description: Mercy Thompson is a shape shifter whose adventures put her in contact with werewolves, vampires, and witches. There’s a romantic love interest in her life (can you say, incredibly sexy werewolf?) but she’s not sure she’s ready for a permanent relationship. These books are extremely well written and engaging. Cassandra Palmer Series by Karen Chance

  1. Touch The Dark
  2. Claimed By Shadow
  3. Embrace The Night
  4. Curse The Dawn

Description: Cassie is a pythia, someone that can go back in time to correct wrongs. She didn’t ask for this gig but since it’s a talent that’s passed down from one pythia to the next, she had no say in the matter. Her title puts her in constant danger because of ongoing power struggles between the vampires, good mages, dark mages, and other creatures. These books are fast paced and chock full of adventure. The sexy men in the series (some of which aren’t exactly human) add to the appeal of these books. Cassie is a smart and witty character that make these books incredibly fun to read.  Get more info & pricing

Urban Werewolf Series by Karen Macinerney

  1. Howling At The Moon
  2. On The Prowl
  3. Leader Of The Pack

Description: Sophie Garou is the star in this series. She smart, sassy, and oh, she’s also a werewolf. Sophie has been “mainstreaming” for years amongst humans. She’s got a great job at an accounting firm, a sexy boyfriend, and a classy fashion sense. Her mother, a practicing witch, helps her mask her true identity from others but Sophie may soon be outed by the local werewolf community. Folks, these books are great. They’re sexy, incredibly funny, and suspenseful. I found it difficult to put either book down once I got started. The 3rd book in the series “Leader of the Pack” comes out this summer. Kitty Norville Series by Carrie Vaughn

  1. Kitty and the Midnight Hour
  2. Kitty Goes to Washington
  3. Kitty Takes a Holiday
  4. Kitty and the Silver Bullet
  5. Kitty and the Dead Man’s Hand
  6. Kitty Raises Hell

Description: Kitty is a smart female werewolf who has a smash hit radio talk show. Her show stands apart from other talk radio because instead of accepting calls from humans, Kitty only takes calls from supernatural creatures: werewolves, vampires, and other things that love the night. The world knows what Kitty is, but they don’t yet believe that other otherworldly creatures exist. Kitty’s interactions with certain inhuman individuals frequently put her in danger. These books are fast paced and superbly written. I’m always anxiously awaiting the next release in the series. Get more info & prices

The Anna Strong Chronicles by Jeanne C. Stein

  1. The Becoming
  2. Blood Drive
  3. The Watcher
  4. Legacy

Description: You’ll be hard pressed to find a stronger female heroine than Anna Strong, the main character in the Night Huntress books. Anna is a female bounty hunter that happens to also be a vampire. Jeanne C. Stein does a fantastic job with character building and as such, Anna has become one of my favorite urban fantasy characters. Get more info & prices

The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison

  1. Dead Witch Walking
  2. The Good, The Bad, and the Undead
  3. Every Which Way But Dead
  4. A Fistful of Charms
  5. For a Few Demons More
  6. The Outlaw Demon Wails
  7. White Witch, Black Curse

Description:Rachel Morgan, the lead character in the series, is a 20-something witch who has a penchant for getting into trouble. Rachel co-owns a magical bounty hunter business with her two live-in partners: Jenks, an 8-inch pixy and Ivy, a female vampire. Between runs she spends her time trying to avoid people like Trent, the oh so handsome and completely human-looking elf who will stop at nothing to preserve his species or “Al” and “Newt”, two demons determined to kill her. And then there’s her roomate Ivy who REALLY wants to bite her. This is a fantastic series with great worldbuilding qualities. Kim Harrison’s superb writing deftly brings The Hollows (where Rachel lives) and the ever-after (think “Hell”) to life. I can visualize every room in the church/home where Rachel lives, all the way down to the furnishings. Folks, it doesn’t get much better than this. The characters are lively (Jenks is hilarious), the dialogue is believable, and the plots are thoroughly engrossing. Check out the first book in the series “Dead Witch Walking” and tell me if I’m wrong! Get more info & prices

Also, don’t forget that Dead and Gone is coming soon! It’s the 9th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

  1. Hi there. I was flattered to see my Night Huntress series listed under your recommended reads, but when I read the description, I think you might have my series confused with Jeanne Stein’s Anna Strong Vampire Chronicles. The heroine of my Night Huntress series is Cat Crawfield, a half-vampire who teams up with – and later falls for – Master vampire Bones.

Jeanne Stein’s Anna Strong series is indeed a wonderful series with a strong vampire heroine and excellent worldbuilding. Jeanne’s books are THE BECOMING, BLOOD DRIVE, THE WATCHER, and LEGACY. Hope that helps readers looking for your recommendation of the Anna Strong series. I know I’m a fan of Jeanne’s as well :) .

    • Oh my Gosh! I’m so sorry about this! How embarrassing! I coded that entire article manually in html and clearly got things mixed up. I had a separate section for your books (as well as the Kelley Armstrong’s) which got overwritten while I was copying-and-pasting the code into Wordpress.

I’ve fixed the list and added a corrected section for the Night Huntress books. I can’t believe I did that.

As an aside, I plan to run a book giveaway contest at the site in a few days and give away a free copy of At Grave’s End.

Again, I really do apologize for the mix-up.

  4. Kristin:

Thanks for the suggestion! I just read the synopses at Amazon and the first book sounds hilarious. Just added it to my shopping cart.

    Thanks!

  5. Melissa Waddell says:

If you love these books, you should definitely check out the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books by Laurell K. Hamilton…they are awesome! The first book in the series is called Guilty Pleasures. You won’t be able to put it down! I also wanted to thank you for the other suggested reads, I’ll definitely have to check them out!

  6. Britney h. says:

Another good one is the Riley Jenson guardian series By keri Arthur. First book is called Full Moon Rising.

    • I just added the first book in the series, Fool Moon Rising, to my Amazon shopping cart. Thanks for the recommendation – it sounds like a great series!

  7. Becca says:

Thanks for all these suggestions–I’ve been burning through all the series you recommended way too fast and I’m going to run out soon–any other suggestions? I’m especially fond of the Mercedes character from Briggs’ series, so if you know of more along those lines I’d be especially delighted :)

      Cast, P. C.
Marked : A House of Night Novel
      Kristin Cast

is a series of 5 books so far. the forst book is marked. they are so informing in some scenes as trueblood and anita blake but they quit good

  8. Aqua says:

Like said in the reviews on the books i suggest Laurell K Hamilton’s books.

  9. Dawn says:

Thanks so much. I have been researching trying to find some new Vampire series (love the werewolves as well). Previously had read Anne Rice, Almost all of Laurell K. Hamilton (which I loved), and Stephenie Meyer’s Twighlight series. Was really wanting more like this. My problem has been there are Soooooo many vampire books out now, and many of them look really bad (quality wise). I am very busy and don’t want to waste my time reading something I don’t end up really enjoying. Have started two books, and after reading anywhere from 1-4 long chapters, put them down – they just were not worth it. So I am excited to give your recommendations a read. Thanks also for those who replied to you and either commented on your books, or recommended others.

    • Tanya says:

      Dawn,

I totally get what you mean about the vampire books out there. I do have a couple of suggestions for you that I think you would love. Karen Moning’s fever series. There are going to be 5 books in the series and 4 are out already. The 5th book will be out 12/28/2010 which is a long time, but it’s okay. So the series is about Mackayla “Mac” who is a small town southern belle from Georgia. Her world comes crashing down when she’s informed that her sister was murdered while attending college in Dublin. Dublin police don’t seem to be doing their job, so Mac packs up and flies to Dublin. She get there and finds out about another world that she never knew existed. This book is a combination of urban fantasy romance, thriller, and suspense all in one. 20th Century fox has optioned the first book so I think it will make it to the screens. Not very sure..So many secrest to uncover! http://www.karenmoning.com/novels/darkfever/index.html I would also suggest Ilona Andrew’s magic series. She lives in Atlanta where magic and technology are unpredictable. When magic is up, technology including cars go down. Then the magic goes down and everything picks back up. Her guardian is murdered and she starts looking for answers. http://kate.ilona-andrews.com/ I would also suggest the host by Stephanie Meyer. Let me just say that this is way better than twilight. It’s more mature. It’s the first book and Stephanie is unsure if she will continue the book. The soul and The seekers would be the next books if she continues. This is also being made in to a movie. Anyway, it’s about these alien species called souls who inhabit human bodies to live. Melanie is taken over by a soul called wanderer but she refuses to leave her body. The wanderer starts feeling Melanie’s emotions and seeing her memories. Now both women inside one body are in love with the same man. I hope this helped you and if you have any suggestions please let me know. I too am running out of stuff to read. I like the very addicting books that are so good you can’t put it down. The ones where your eyes is hurting and blury but you just can’t put the book down.

  10. Katie says:

I also came looking for recommedational reading after finishing all the Sookie Stackhouse books that have been released. I am looking foreward to the new one. I first fell in love with Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga and looked into finding more Vampire books that were as well written as Meyer and Harris. There did seem to be an explosion of Vampire and Supernatural Books avalible since Harris and Meyer’s books got so popular and spawned movies and a series. Now there is a new series coming out called Vampire Diaries based on a book series. I was considering reading it but maybe I will read the Laurell K. Hamilton series instead, since everyone gave great reviews of her. Thanks Guys.

    • Mindy says:

I just finished the Kim Harrison’s Hollow’s Series. Its a very good read! I love Rachel Morgan’s Character and the believable character interactions.

  11. tammy says:

Mercy Thompson Series which was amazing
Cat Crawfield series which I cant what for The new book about Denise’s story
    Vimpire Diaries
AND Riley Jenson series new book coming soon cant wait
SO KNOW I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT BOOK TO READ OR TO START OFF WITH CAN YOU PLEASE HELP

    • Byerserinb says:

I have also read all of these books. You should read the alpha omega novels by patricia briggs .

    • Amber says:

the answer to all your vampire fiction dreams!
Has new types of supes and doesn’t focus on vampires but is written in a similar style to the books we have mentioned and loved here.

The quote on the cover of “City of Bones” got me (stephanie meyer saying it is a world she loves to get lost in or something like that).

Wish there were more than 3 books though.

    • Katie says:

Read the Blue Blood series by Melissa De La Cruz. It’s a different concept to vampires. I was skeptical of the series at first, but buy the second chapter I was hooked. She has 4 books out, and more coming soon. My whole office has been reading them. They are great!

  12. Nickie says:

Jennifer Rardin has a series, The Jaz Parks Series. This one has a female lead character, and involves supernatural characters, including vampires. Yasmine Galenorn’s series, Sister’s of the Moon is another good one. It’s about three faerie sisters. One is a witch, one is a werecat, and the final one is a vampire. I also enjoyed Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires Series, Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Blood Novels, P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast’s House of Night Novels, and Richelle Meade’s Vampire Academy Novels. These last four are geared more towards young adult readers, but were good reads non-the-less.

    • BestFantasyStoriesAdmin says:

      Nickie:

Thanks so much for the great recommendations. Since I first wrote the article I’ve read many of the books on your list. I agree, they’re fantastic.

I’ll update the article with the additional entries.

      Thanks again!

  13. tammy says:

Nickie thanks so much Im looking in on all the books and getting started thanks again

  14. STEPHANIE says:

I hope I have not over looked these on someone’s list already, but I would highly recommend The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. These are fabulous reads and will keep you in suspense.

  15. Mark says:

ok not that i’m a hater or nothing but is there any vampire/werewolf books where the main character is a dude i mean no offense but i wanna read about peoples heads getting ripped of and violence and also romance and stuff cause thats the stuff that keeps me from putting a book down

    • Mark:

I wrote an article called “Fantasy Books for Men.” Check it out.

I get so many questions asking me to recommend books for different age groups and genders that I’m working on a LARGE article which will provide lists of fantasy books based on lots of different categories. Check back soon for that article!

    • bobg says:

Try the George RR. Martin Game of Thrones series. It’s not vampires or werewolves, but it’s full of devious plots and sword battles with a little supernatural thrown in.

    • Shelby says:

      Hi Mark
Three great reads I’d suggest are two by Patricia Briggs: Hurog Duology
      Dragon Bones2002 ISBN: 0441009166
      Dragon Blood2003 ASIN: 0441010083

and one by Baroness Emmuska Orczy (The Scarlett Pimpernel)

both authors keep it exciting and original – and while I say they are original, the character who is in Briggs’ novels who seems to just be a dim noble and the main protag. from the other remind me a good deal of one another – I actually laughed out loud while Reading both of these. the authors do a great job with dialogue and making the characters, action and romance interesting without any one element bogging any part of the storyline down IMHO. The latter, of course, is still fiction but is a classic (but still so easy to read and characters that are so lively and loveable). I would love to meet people like these men in real life ;) Ps the scarlet pimp is also a great movie – book was good even after having seen movie first!

      • Shelby says:

I think anyone can read the hurog books, just want to add bc I forgot, My ex bf (lol now best friend) loved the hurog reads, they were something I supplemented his Reading w when he was done with the thrones novels (we’re still waiting on the last book(s?) to come out but like bobg says, those are great great books too!

  16. tammy says:

Nickie I just got done with all the Jaz Parks books and they were so great I cant wait for the next one due out in OCT
Thanks so Much any more that are related

  17. Coco says:

I have read most of the books mentioned above and they are fantastic. I have two other series that haven’t been mentioned that I just couldn’t put down: The Dark Series by Christine Feehan and The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning.

  18. tammy says:

I have read the dark series but after the the 4 th book it seems to that the storys read in the same way at least to me.

  19. Kat says:

As I see in other peoples responses I also started reading the Twilight series and then moved onto the Sookie Stackhouse series. Now I am hooked! When I finished those I found a series called The Argeneau Series by Lynsay Sands, it is more adult oriented than Twilight and that is why I loved it, I could not put it down and once I was half way through the second book I just ordered all the rest so I would have them when I was done each book! GREAT SERIES!! Does anyone know any other vampire/supernatural books that are for adults and have some romance in them?

    • Lisa says:

Definitely try The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. They are romantic ( and very sexy like the Sookie books), action packed, and filled with suspense. I loved the Twilight and Sookie books too and I was so excited to find these. Jeaniene is writing more in the series from Kat’s point of view and from the other characters point of view too. I’m having a hard time waiting for them to come out.
I’m about to try the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. It’s supposed to be sexy and exciting but in a world of werewolves. Hope this helps!

      • Lisa:

You’ll love the Kelley Armstrong books. Check out Industrial Magic and Dime Store Magic as well. They’re about a female witch and are a treat to read.

        • Lisa says:

I just finished all of the women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong and they were wonderful. I am hopelessly hooked on all of the characters! I’m so glad she doesn’t plan to end the series anytime soon!

    • Lauren says:

Try Lara Adrian’s series- the first is Kiss of Midnight…it too was in the Romance section along with Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress Series.

  20. tammy says:

I cant wait for the rest of kats and bones books They are the best books I have every read. I hope the next book that is based on Spade is just as good.

  21. Drew says:

My favorite Urban Fantasy of all time are the Dresden files from Jim Butcher. Seriously well written, exciting and hilarious.

  22. Whitney says:

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I have read most of these and am grateful to have more!

One series I haven’t seen mentioned is the Gardella Vampire Chronicles by Colleen Gleason. Out of all of the series I have read, hers is one of my favourites by far. It has an amazing heroine fighter, but it is historical based, which is a little different from most of the books listed here.

Thanks again for the great suggestions!

  23. Sheri says:

I haven’t seen Jennifer Armintrout’s “Blood Ties” series (not the same as the show Blood Ties). There are four books in the series (and there will not be more unfortunately). Lots of romance, vampires and werewolves. And thanks so much for this list!

  24. Linda says:

Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost are the best! I’ve read them all and am anxiously awaiting the next!

    • Yes, the Night Huntress series is awesome. Thanks for leaving a comment. Also, if you come across other fantasy books that our readers might like, feel free to mention them here!

  25. Kina says:

I so appreciate your suggestions; I’ve just finished reading the Mercy Thompson series and loved it! I haven’t seen the Chicagoland Vampire Series by Chloe Neill listed by anyone. There are only 2 books so far with a 3rd due out next summer. The heroine is very well written, with well developed characters, and witty dialogue.

    • Nia says:

This is the best series ever ! I’ve told my friends to buy these books too, & we can not wait for the next series. Totally awesome.

  26. Terra says:

I have finished the last Sookie book and I need to find a series as similar as possible…I LOVED it! I came to this series after first reading the Twilight series, Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series (which is a bit darker but FANTASTIC!) and several books in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series (because of my lack of free time, I also listen to most of the books I read and unfortunately the narrators in the earlier Dark Hunter books are unbearable…seriously). I cannot wait to check out some of these recommendations. Hopefully some of them are also available on audio. :)

  27. TRISH says:

I have read the Twilight series it was very teen oriented at first but got better as it went on. I enjoyed it very much.
My all time favorite series is the Sookie Stackhouse series I have read all and all short stories and am anxiously waiting for more. I purchased the True Blood first season and plan on buying season 2 also. I have read all of Stephen King horror and after reading the Sookie Stackhouse books I dream about the characters, no other book has ever affected me this way I feel like I know all of the characters personally and I am routing for Sookie to make a more permanent commitment to Eric as a team they can still have many adventures and of course gourmet sex !! the Angela Knight Megaverse series is also a good read with lots of fun characters. I am currently re-reading the Sookie Stackhouse series just to see if I have forgotten anything and it is just as good the second time around.

    • Trish:

Thanks for sharing your love for all things Sookie – we love the books as well! Please drop in each day because we plan to give away the entire 8-book box set as a holiday gift next month!

  28. Lori says:

Someone suggested the J. R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and I had to second that suggestion. I had never been impressed by paranormals until a bookstore clerk suggested this series and promised I wouldn’t be able to put them down. She was right. Raw, edgy, amazing. These are definitely not your teenager’s paranormals.

Now that I’ve read BDB and Sookie’s novels, I’m hooked on this genre. Thanks for sharing your favorites. I’m adding to my shopping cart right now…

  29. Byerserinb says:

You guys should read ..Eileen Wilks novels about the world of the lupi..THEY ARE GREAT ! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE !!

    • I’ll definitely check out the Eileen Wilks books. I’ve read some of her other books and was quite pleased.

Also, I agree with your comment about the Patrica Briggs “Alpha and Omega” series. They’re great and are definitely something Sookie Stackhouse fans should check out!

      Thanks a bunch!

  30. TRISH says:

The Christine Feehan Dark series is also a great read with lots of fun characters and I like the Carpathians vs Vampire story line as the Carpathians are considered living and able to have children……check it out!!

  31. Eye Spy Books says:

About the Dark Series by Christine Feehan , yes it is a bit samey to begin with but as you progress through the series the action and mythology draws you in , the last Dark Slayer is excellent. Another series that is good is the Drake Sisters series which is about witches and disembodied evil as well as the Shifters series which concerns mainly were-jaguars. This series has ties to certain books in the Dark series and is a little more ‘hot and heavy’ both of the above series are written by Christine Feehan.
Another good writer in this genre is Emma Holly and her upyr series as well as Maggie Shayne’s Wings/Shadows series both are vampire/soul mates themes with some books set in historical times as well as some in modern day. Hope you guys like them, I certainly did!

  32. Eye Spy Books says:

I should have written this first , I commend you on your site , I came here because I had just seen most of the True Blood first series after reading up to around book 7 a while ago and was thinking the t.v. didn’t quite match up to the books. Originally I got them from the library and am having quite a task to find the original paperbacks with the painted front covers- I don’t really want to get the new editions with the True Blood esqu covers. So your site was really helpful on which books I am missing and this if you like thread is really good to I’m threshing through the library site now for some of the ones people have recommended , thankyou again

    • Thanks for the input! I plan to take all of the suggestions in the comments and put them together into a list. As people recommend additional titles I’ll add them to the list. That will serve as a book “shopping list” for people to use when ordering online or at local bookstores or libraries. It will take a few weeks to put together but I think it’s something people will use.

Thanks and please continue dropping in!

  33. Lauren says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this site! I just saved it as one of my favorites. It seems I started out my obssesion with vampire series in much the same way as others here- Twilight, of course, and you could say I was “bitten” :) I blew through the Sookie Stackhouse series and had to find more of the same. Thanks to your recommendations I just finished book # 4 The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. Loved the series and I NEED more! I picked up Lara Adrian’s Kiss of Midnight and I like it so far. I will be adding more of your recommendations to my list! Keep compiling that list! I’m quite sure I’ll be returning soon!

    • Agreed. I’ve read books in the Lara Adrian’s series and they’re very well written.

Also, I’m glad you appreciate the site. I try to find good books to recommend to the readers that come to the site.

      Thanks!

  34. kit says:

Hey, thx so much for posting all those recommendations! I just finished the sookie stackhouse series and I absolutely loved the characters!!!
Thanks to your book reviews, I’ve started the night huntress series and I think it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
Can’t wait to read all the other ones you all have listed!!! :)

  35. Candace says:

I loved Sookie Stackhouse and I am almost finished with Mercy Thompson, who I also love. I HATED Anita Blake. The problem with her world was that the author (Hamilton) did not introduce you to the characters worlds correctly. She just started talking about the abilities of her characters like you know the world. Each author has given their supernatural creatures their own powers and therefore you need to explain what is going on to the reader.

I did like Kelly Armstrong’s books but I was sad they didn’t all run together. I want a steady series to follow someone and fall in love with the characters. I read her books for a good read but I don’t read them in hopes of learning something new about someone or something I love.

There are two things I don’t like but seem to be a theme in the UF world. (1) one creature type is always evil and there is no good – like Anita Blake, all of her vampires are evil and there are no redeeming qualities (maybe in the later books but you need to get through the first couple first…and I couldn’t). (2) Most of the main characters are bounty hunters. I love a super chick who is confident and tough but they don’t all have to be bounty hunters!

    • BestFantasyStories Admin says:

      Candace:

Try the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. I think you’ll really like those books. The lead character is a witch who tracks down people who misuse magic. She lives with a female vampire and a REALLY funny pixie.

    • Karma says:

The comments on the anita blake books posted here are untru. Granted Maybe I am wounded lol because I get completely lost in these books and have to admit when I reach the end I do suffer withdrawles. The characters absolutly have redeeming qualities. You just have to read through. I think she is one of the greatest writers in this genre so far (even though I have many favs) Her merdith gentry series is amazing. But you really should be an adult to read these books. With her writing you may need to slosh through the first couple of chapters because she really goes into detailing before she approaches the story. I think maybe if the previous person could be able to sit and force their way through it they will be very surprised with the outcome. I had to force my way through the beginnig of the mergith gentry books by laurell k hamilton but I am so glad I did. I am a horror obsessed reader and never liked the idea of reading about faries but the series is amazing. You will never see faries the same way after this. So please give her a try.
Also just read the Jeanine Frost book I believe it was called destined for an early grave. Was unaware that there was a series and this was the latest one but wow I have just found another great writer.
Here are some more books and writers I recommend:

Anne Rice: The lives of the Mayfair Witches (may have a little trouble getting into the 1st couple chapters but these 3 books stole my heart)

      P.C.Cast: The house of night
More of a young adult series but again after the first book it is very good.

      Twilight:
Of coarse again a young adult series in the fact that there is not descriptive sexual content. A very sweet read and a good ride.

Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse- a southern vampire novel.
These are just down right fun to read. Even though the Series on telivision is not exact I enjoy that as well (True Blood)

Melissa Marr: The faerie tatoo books
Just getting into this series but appears to be going well.

      Rachel Caine: The Morganville Vampires
A young adult series, again low on the sexual content but a very well written book for younger people or those who just like a good story. The characters are lovely.

      Kim Harrison:
Not a favorite of mine but a good read in all. This is more as a mystery detective way, which except for the exception of laurell K Hamilton I dont really go the detective way.

This is all I am able to think of from the top of my head will def, keep you updated on books I find and can’t live without. But AGAIN my must for reading are both series by Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake and Merdith Gentry) and my favorite Trilogy ever would have to be Anne Rice’s The lives of the mayfair witches ( 3 books include: The witching hour, taltos, and Lasher the last 2 may not be the order but are the names of the books)
Blessed Be everyone and may your nights be filled with many wonderful books and plenty of delicious vamps and ghouls VvvvvvvV

Thanks so much for making this list. When I was done with twilight I read sookie stackhouse to get my fix. I was happy that it was actually way better than twilight. After sookie, I stumbled on to your website and have read some of the series you suggested. I read Cassie palmer series and loved it! I love the action and the humor in it. Pritcin is sarcastic and funny in his own way. Can’t wait for the next book to come out. I also read Kim Harrison’s Hallows series and it keeps getting better. Many questions to be answered. I don’t know why I think she should end up with Trent. Is it me or is Al becoming over protective of her. Peirce seems more than just a little innocent ghost. He may truly have feelings for her but is hiding something. I just read moon called last week. I felt that it was very slow in the beginning, picked up a little, then slowed down again. Does the series get better after the first book? I have a couple of suggestions for you to add on to your pile. I guarantee that you would love them! Fever series by Karen Moning is incredible! It kept up in the middle of the night wanting more and more. I also love Ilona’s magic series. I really loved it. Did someone mention Anita Blake? May I suggest reading the first 6-8 books and then moving on. The new books lack action, and she has turned in to a complete porn star. Don’t get me wrong.. I love the steamy scenes, but I don’t want the whole book to be about sex and only sex. Thanks again for these great suggestions! They have done more than hold me over until Dead in the family comes out.

I’m glad you enjoyed some of the books on the list!

I totally agree with your recommendations about the Anita Blake series. It started out great but Anita’s character started changing too much after Book 8 so I stopped reading the series.

I also love the Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series.

I’ve not read the Fever series though – I’ll have to check it out!

      Thanks so much!

So i’ve read the 1st and 2nd sookie stackhouse books but can’t seem to really get into them. But if your looking for something great, kick-ass, down to the core loving, i would say read J.R.Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. It a great series. It so awesome that i’m finding it so hard to get into anythng else :( i guess that’s why i can finish stackhouse series. I’m finding it hard to get into anything else. So if you haven’t read them go find a book store near you and buy the first one “dark lover” while you order the rest. I promise you will not be disappointed!! And if you get the box set give your dark lover to your friend so you’ll keep it going. trust me you’ll want your friends to read so you can have someone to talk to. My girlfriends and i are hook to that point that our boyfriends know the whole story line. If you read them please let me know what your next fix was cause i have not found it yet. And book 9 comes out may 2011. I just might die!

  37. Michelle says:

In addition to the many people who recommend Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series (which is great) I’d also recommend Richelle Mead’s 2 other series, the Succubus Series and Dark Swan Series, Chloe Neill’s vampire series, which starts with Some Girls Bite, and Linda Robertson’s witch, werewolf, vampire series starting with Vicious Circle.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE TWILIGHT SAGA. AFTER READING THOSE BOOKS OVER AND OVER I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER FIND ANOTHER BOOK I ENJOYED.THEN I READ THE HOUSE OF NIGHT SERIES BY P.C CAST AND KRISTEN CAST I REALLY DO LOVE THAT SERIES AS WELL, AND I AM PATIENTLY AWAITING THE 7TH BOOK BURNED.I AM NOW READING THE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE BOOKS AND YES I ADORE THOSE AS WELL.THEY ARE JUST WONDERFUL AND I RECCOMEND THOSE TO EVERYONE. AFTER THE SOOKIE BOOKS I HAD PLANNED ON READING THE NIGHT HUNTRESS SERIES BY JEANIENE FROST,BUT HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE MORGANVILLE VAMPIRE SERIES ALSO.I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD READ THE MORGANVILLE VAMPIRE SERIES,AND IS IT WORTH THE TIME.PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU RECCOMEND THAT SERIES,IF NOT WHAT ELSE DO YOU THINK IS A GOOD READ.

The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost also rocks.

Isn’t it great having so many wonderful books to choose from?

Anita Blake series by laurell k hamilton is brilliant and what is great is that there are so many of them that you have plenty of books to keep your withdrawl under control while you are witing for more ha. The main character is Anita Blake, she is a necromancer, a witch in her own way, a vampire hunter, oh and by the way she has a drawl about her that gets her in more guy trouble then she could ever imagine. This series has everything in it. Vampires, hunters, wares, ghosts, I have never been into wares but man it is just amazing.

Everyone should check out the Black Dagger Brotherhood series as well. Read most of this list you have recommended and love them all so I think many will enjoy. J.R. Ward is the author and very strongly written!

  40. AmyK says:

I’ve been on the lookout for more books like Twilight/Sookie Stackhouse. I’m not as much into the sci-fi fantasy stuff with vampire hunters (Anita Blake), etc., and I want to stay away from the high school stuff, but recently, I accidentally found a GREAT new series that takes place in early London with vampires, werewolves, and the main character–a Mary Poppins of sorts–who has no soul and gets her nose in all sorts of mysterious business. The book is “Soulless” by Gail Carriger. It’s book 1 of the Parasol Protectorate, and the second book “Changeless” is due out at the end of this month (March ‘10). Just thought I’d recommend it in case there’s anyone out there with tastes like mine. I need more books to fill in the gap between Sookie Stackhouse book releases.

    • Amy:

Yes, I saw this book in a bookstore while on travel and I remember thinking that it looked like a great book. I love Victorian romance & mystery almost as much as I love fantasy. So a book that combines those genres is definitely interesting to me. I didn’t purchase the book at the time because I’d already purchased other books and didn’t have much room left in my luggage.

Thanks so much for recommending this book and prodding my memory. I just downloaded it from Amazon! Can’t wait to read it.

For others, here’s more info on the boook:

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate) by Gail Carriger.

Thanks for creating this list of books to read!!

I have seen them on the previous posts but I would also like to recommend and the Ilona andrews(Kate Daniels Series) and any of the Jeanine Frost books are awesome. Does anyone know of another series that has the same writing styles of these authors (other than what’s posted)

    Thanks!

  42. Rafa says:

    This comes highly recommended:

    - Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
    - Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris
    - Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
    - Fever series by Karen Marie Moning
    - The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
    - Night Huntrees series by Jeanine Frost
    - Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

All of these were a pleasure to read. I would recommend them to anyone.

The Women of Otherworld series by Kelly Armstrong is not too bad, but they weren’t the kind of books that you can’t put down.

I have also read some of the Anita Blake series, and it’s not for everyone, I gave up after the fourth. The Riley Jenson series and the Black Dagger Brotherhood I found too pornographic. And the House of Night series by PC Cast was too young, and teenage language was quite irritating.

  43. bobg says:

I have recently began reading urban fanasy and am looking for a more intellectual series. Although i enjoyed Laurell k Hamilton, the plots of a super-natural heroine with a magic vagina has become tiresome. Is there anything out there withing the urban fantasy genre that is more involved and sculpted around the same lines as George RR Martin or the Hyperion series, without just being true sci-fi.

    • Bob:

Have you read the books in the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher? They’re about a modern day wizard that battles supernatural baddies. It’s written with great wit and the storylines are well written.

Also, Simon R. Green has a “Nightside” series that’s a bit darker but equally witty and well written.

  44. Tracey says:

My friend turned me on to this website.

How awesome to find several series I have not read yet. I don’t think I saw one I’m reading now mentioned and it’s pretty good. I think it was better than the P.C. Cast House of Knight books. It’s called Vampire Academy the Guardian series by Richelle Mead

So far I have read and loved in order of most to least:

    Anne Rice vampire series
    Anne Rice Mayfair Witches series
    Anne Rice Taltos series

    Sookie Stackhouse series Charlaine Harris

Rachel Morgan the Hollows series by Kim Harrison (the first book starts out slow but the next 9 books really make up for it)

    Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer

Riley Jensen the Guardian series Keri Arther

Vampire Acadamy series by Richelle Mead

Anita Blake Laurell K. Hamilton (the first 7-9 books were really great but they started to get a little too much erotica and whole lot less about butt kicking vampire slaying/zombie raising. * Adult books, not for kids.

Merdith Gentry by Laurell K. Hamilton *Adult books, not for kids.

    Black dagger brotherhood J.R. Ward

house of night- by P.C. and Kristin Cast

Jazz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin

    • Tracey says:

Oops I combined two series….The Vampire Academy is the series written by Richelle Mead which is awesome and Riley Jensen, also awesome, is the Guardian series written by Keri Arther.

Coincidentally The Vampire Academy’s main character is Rose Hathaway, who is an actual vampire guardian. Hence my confusion over Guardian being the series name!

  45. kara says:

its so awesome that most of my favorate books are being read. just the only thing is that nobody said anything about Tanya Huff. her Vicky Nelson series is just as much of a staple as the Anita Blake series and Sookie Stackhouse series. the first one is called blood price.

  46. Kerry says:

I have a few other suggestions in addition to the suggestions people have already posted about. Hope it helps all of the people who have read the rest of them like me.

Betsey Taylor Series – by MaryJanice Davidson (Book#1- Undead and Unwed)
~ These are lighter reads, but the main character, Betsey, is hilarious. It’s like Legally Blonde has died and came back as a vampire. She is flippant and superficial, but she is hilarious. There is also a light romance theme throughout the series.

    Megan’s Mark – Lora Leigh
This is a book in the middle of the Breed series. I did not care for the other books, but this one got me worked up. It has the perfect alpha male character that makes me melt. I think out of all of the books I have read, his banter and aggressiveness is my favorite. He reminds me of Bones, but even more forward and sensual (that is saying a lot too, because I LOVE Bones). ITs not as deep of a read and its character development is not too in depth, but even so, its a good read.

Midnight Awakening – Midnight Breed Series Book #3 – Lara Adrian
This is my favorite Midnight Breed book. This is one of those series where every book focuses on a new romance between two characters that were minor in prior books. This one focuses on Elise and Tegan. It is my personal favorite because I love Tegan and how hard to get he is. I like the chase and he definitely provides that. He is also borderline jerk and I have always been turned on my guys like that.

As everyone has already posted, I just wanted to reiterate… The Night Huntress series with Kat and Bones is my favorite. The character development and dialogue really brings you into the book, similar to the Twilight series, but even more so because its more adult, therefore more applicable for those out of highschool age. I must warn you though, if you read too many of these type of books, you will start feeling lonely and wonder why you got a raw deal with your husband :) LOL

    • Kerry:

Thanks SO MUCH for posting those recommendations! From the books you listed, I’ve read the Lara Adrian Midnight Breed books and you’re right, they’re great.

Also, you’re so right about the relationship between Kat and Bones. I highly recommend the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost to people that like the Sookie Stackhouse books!

      Thanks again!

  47. Lisa says:

I’ve read some series that aren’t listed here, as well as some that are. I’ve read some good young adult as well as adult books: My favorite teen series are:
The Vampire Academy books by Richelle Mead
The House Of Night books by PC and Kristen Cast
I also REALLY liked The Immortals series by Allison Noel, which isn’t exactly the same- immortals, no vampires or shapeshifters.
Cool teen fiction, futuristic series: The Uglies series by Scott Westerfield.

    For ADULT readers:
I HAVE to mention the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, since they are my gold standard, and the first adult vampire books I read.
I also found a series I love just as much: The Demonica series by Larissa Ione. Graphic sexual content, but it ALSO has a great storyline and excellent writing!
I’ve read several adult paranormal romance series. I would say I liked The Midnight Breeds series as well, by Lara Adrian- VERY similar to Black Dagger Brotherhood, but maybe a little more tame.
Other light, quick reads that I enjoyed, but didn’t obsess about while I was reading:
Cherry Adair- Night Fall, Night Secrets, Night Shadow
Any Sherrilyn Kenyon book :Read The Dark Hunter books, The League series, and Lords of Avalon under Kingley MacGregor.
Christopher Moore- I read Bloodsucking Fiends, there are 2 more I haven’t started yet. If you like Sookie, you’d probably like these. They’re funny and quirky.
I read PC Cast’s Divine Series, which I really liked, light and funny, lots of wine refences and romance. Read the first in the Godess series, not quite as good.

For a frame of reference: I HATED Ann Rice’s Interview With A Vampire. I read 1 Anita Blake book, was given the next, but I can’t bring myself to start it because I felt like I suffered enough through the first one, even though the guy at Borders told me they get better after that.

I just finished my 100th book since last July (which was the latest House Of Night Book). I picked up Twilight, which was the first book I’d read for fun in 14 years, and I haven’t stoppped. Thanks for the other suggestions listed!

Ok. thanks so much for writing this and everyone for adding on!!! I’ve been searching so long for a list exactly like this!!! Strong, funny, DIVERSE personalitied and generally likeable/good female charcters and sexy masculine unique and LIKEABLE/interesting and multi-faceted men! Loved patricia Briggs mercy novels, Karen macinerney Sophie Garou novels and Karen Marie Moning’s MacKayla Lane novels!! I don’t have a new authorr to add, just other books by this author.. ALL of l.j. Smith’s books http://www.ljanesmith.net/booklist.php got me and my older sis through our hs nights once we were in – some weekends, too. She was an amazing author, and the series that made television was actually one of my least favorites but I loved EVERY SINGLE BOOK she ever wrote. Talk about fantasy world escapism – tot wish I could be ANY one of those characters and live their lives. Check out the night world series. I have collected them. They may be for a YA audience but they still do it for me when I want to read an author who just knows the right way to deliver an edge-of-your-seat (bed) girl action fantasy with strong and mostly moral Characters (still good to read that stuff, ya know?) and extroardinary gifts. Her daughter (I believe?) now writes under her mothers (pen) name (not entirely sure of this though) and has added onto the Vampire Diaries series. Orig l.j. Smith though, wrote main books of series only, as far as I know (been wondering what happened but think she may have passed due to cancer, anyone know? truly Wish my sis and I couldve thanked her for her books – she really seemed like she wanted to make the world a stronger and more fantastic place – at least she helps in the inner thoughts (and as she says, give good female role models to young women) Orig. Lisa Jane Smith series I loved are: Night World, Dark Visions, The Secret Circle, The Forbidden Game – if you get them you’ll have to stock food so you can hole up and become a part of their world..

  49. Jen says:

I like everyone else got into the paranormal romance/fantasy fiction series after reading the Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse series. Since then I’ve read a lot. Here are some my favs:
Richelle Mead – all 3 series but Vampire Academy is definitely my fav. I love Rose and Dimitri. But The Succubus and Dark Swan series are great as well.
Kelley Armstrong – I wasn’t sure about these at first thinking i was a vampire fan, but i fell in love with Clay and Elana (werewolves) i actually prefer the stories with the wolves to the magic ones but they are ok too.
Jeannine Frost – loved em totally addictive
Cloe McNeil – Chicagoland Vampires was good and can’t wait for the next book in a few months
JR Ward – Blackdagger Brotherhood series was excellent, addictive, and super sexy
Patricia Briggs – Mercy Thompson series was good too it needs a little more sizzle though i haven’t read the alpha and omega series yet
i was not a fan of the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton i just couldn’t get into it
    for YA books:
i already mentioned Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead which is my favorite
Robin McKinley – Sunshine was awesome Maggie Stiefver – Shiver another excellent choice and i recomend the audiobook on this one the girls voice makes the story!
    Cassandra Clare – Mortal Instruments
    Alyson Noel – Immortal Series
    Claudia Grey – Evernight seris
Melissa De La Cruz – Blue Bloods series
Suzanne Collins – Hunger Games series is not about sups but one of the best series out of all of these
LJ Smith – Vampire Diaries was ok compared to the others

  50. Rachelle says:

Orson Scott Card’s Enchantment is not a part of a series, but I loved it so much I think it’s worth mentioning. The hero is a male scholar who sort of falls into a fairy tale while walking in the woods in Russia. He meets a princess from a bygone era and the culture clash and romance that ensues is very realistic and interesting. I recommended the book to my friends and they devoured it. I wish they’d make it into a movie.
Also, thanks so much for the recommendations, I was definitely in Sookie Stackhouse withdrawal. Where to start though? I wish there were a way to prioritize everything mentioned.

  51. NAOMI says:

I’m so glad I came across this site.
I just bought a kindle and have been itching to start a series that i can just keep instantly downloading book after book.

I loved twilight, the vampire academy series, blue bloods, and my favorite is the sookie stackhouse series.( love the show true blood as well)

I wanted an established series so I could spend all summer poolside (as I did last year with the sookie books)
and just read book afer book after book.

I think im gonna start with the night huntress series by jeaniene frost and then go on to the mercy thompson series

I’m soooo excited, thank you thank you thank you

    • Glenny says:

I would add JR Ward- Black Dagger Brotherhood! There better then great…I have not found a series that can compare! The Brother will keep you great company poolside…I bet you you’ll be jumping in to cool off every hour on the hour!!!

  52. Kristina says:

    Hi everyone,

So glad found this blog. Thanks all of you for suggestions. I have read Twilight Series and Sookie. Really enjoyed Sookie’s series as it is more adult and more interesting thatn Twilight. Though Twilight is written buetufully, I found it a bit teenage and not enough action, second book was boring – film brilliant, 3rd book good, and fourth – I am just glad I have finnished. Where with Sookie I can’t wait for each book, hopefully whe will publish more books.

After all your comments, decided to read Black Dagger BrotherHood, wasn’t sure in the beggining, but when I finished 1st book in just few days realisied that it is very exicting and I love it. I am already on third book and ordered the rest 5 min ago.

Next series probably will be Vampire Academy or Fever Series, a lot of positive feedback here.

    Thanks

  53. I love your website – nice work!

  54. erica says:

Twilight was my first experience with paranormal romance. When I started it, and couldn’t put it down. After I was finished, I wanted something a little more adult. I stumbled upon “Dark Lover, which is the 1st in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and was hooked. I have read, and enjoyed a lot of books since then including:
    Sookie Stackhouse series, (loved)
    Chicago Vampire Series, (liked)
Women of the Other World Series, (liked a lot)
but my all time favorite books I have found yet are the “Night Huntress Series.” I absolutely fell in love with Cat and especially Bones. Ahhh! In my opinion,He is better than Edward in Twilight.

My second favorite series was the “Shifter” series by Rachel Vincent. Although these books are not about vampires, they are about Were Cats. I thought I wouldn’t like the theme at first, but got totally hooked on them. Her best book yet was the most recent one in the series called “Shift” But you really should start with the 1st in the series to enjoy them.

Jaye Wells, “Red Headed Step Child” and her second book in series were good reads as well.

Hope that helps some of you.

  55. tiffany says:

I’ve come back to this site after reading each book “almost”. I’m sure you have nothing better to do with your time, (with sarcasm)but I would love a list with a bit of info… You have such a vast knowledge of the topic, and have read sooooo many books. I’d love to know which books are more steamy, or more YA. I love series that have some conclusion at the end each book. I stopped reading PC cast, house of night after the 4th book, and didn’t care how the first 2 blue bloods books just stop. They were also a bit too highschool.

Sookie Stackhouse for me was perfect, just a enough romance to balance out a great story, and some resolution at the end. Because of your recommendation, I am now in love with the night huntress by frost. Always looking for more.

I couldn’t get into the first Anita blake. I enjoyed Kelley armstrong’s bitten and stollen, but would like more of a series, and stollen didn’t have as much of clay (herroine and hero interaction)as I would have liked. Vampire diaries = to juvenile for me. Twilight got me into the fantasy romance, but sookie and nighthuntress I enjoy way better. I like Mercy Thompson, but wished there were romance.

I am wondering about some of your other recomendations. Which have romance as well as substance? Any recomendations?

    What about…
    Fever Series by Karen Moning
Black Dagger Brotherhood, JR Ward (sounds steamy, but is the story good? didn’t care for anitat blake.)
Alpha & Omega? any more romance than Mercy Thompson?
Richelle Mead’s Vampire Accademy too juvenile?

It’s nice to know a book is good, but good is different for everyone. I’m not as concerened about plot, I’m open to alot, but would love to know if books fall into an adult or YA category. Is it written well? with fun characters, or just rushed out with no conclusion helping ensure the authurs paycheck…cough…PCcast. does it fall under romance, or just fantasy? or is it just stemy sex without a story?

I would even love to just know which of the books you recommended over a year and a half ago, which have romance? which are YA etc. I know you’re busy, but thought it couldn’t hurt to ask.
    Thanks,
Stay at home mom, who loves to escape while the kids play.

these SEEM to be all the same little girl fantasy type things, i know sookie stackhouse books are different from trueblood but i had a dream with trueblood characters in it and im looking for a book that has complex society and relationships between the fantasy realm creatures and modern world, a way for them to fit into each other. do any of these books have something like that? or can you recommend one?

      Hey Max,

I would definately go for the Fever Series if I were you. The first chapter or two I didnt think it would be for me, but it is an AMAZING read, very intricate and I stayed up long into the night on more than a few occasions because I could not put these books down. Very hot

  57. Heather says:

This is a great list and I have read most on it. I keep coming back on for new leads on a good read and I am never disappointed!!

I May have missed it but I didn’t see the Allie Beckstrom Series by Devon Monk. So far I’m really enjoying this series and I think it is becoming one of my faves.

    Hope this helps!

  58. dare says:

Everyone is going to hate me as i disliked the twilight books immensily. The female character was such a bad role model for young girls i just couldn’t get over her! Her character was on par with a paperback romance in scope and she was all about being protected by her man, whom she almost immeidately knew was the one and only man for her, she would do anything for him! She was like barbie doll totally plastic. maybe i am exaggreating a little but you know what i mean. If my mother ever read the book and meant the authour there would be a death and my mom is 70. She would think it set back womans role models 50 years.

I think suprisingly that the series by PC Cast was a better series up to a point. The last book was just okay.

Hamiltons books are now becoming hard porn so you might as well just get a porn dvd at this point. Something along the lines of S&M. i loved her early books but the writing was bad, then the writting got good, and now the porn is bad.

The characters i like are the more real ones. Neither good nor evil. More like a person. I think the Kitty goes to books are actually good characters. Why in the end though do all these characters have to submit or be dominated. Can not they just go on a little messed up?

i totally enjoyed the eariler Sookie books. The series is starting to become more of the same. I want sookie to become magical or something. But in a way i guess the book is more like real life in that it goes on slowly.

the hallow’s series i really loved. Although once again there could have been heavy editing on some of the scenes and it could have been a slightly better book however the plot was excellent and the characters 3 d.

i have read almost everything on the list. I read about 800 books a year so i am fairly critical. Sorry about the spelling and grammer..learning disablity and no spell check.

I have a reccomendation….Lynsay Sands Argeneau Series….The series is very good and well done. The characters in these books are actually from Atlantis but immortal. They do have to live on blood in order to survive, but other than that, they are not truly vampires, unless they make the decision to turn into one. Very good books. I also love Christine Feehan’s books, and J. R. Ward’s. Also, has anyone tried reading Alyssa Day’s Warriors of Poseidon? Excellent books. Also try Gena Showalter, the Atlantis series.

    • Stephanie:

I never read Warriors of Poseidon! They sound really interesting.

Have you read any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by J.R. Ward? They’re also really good!

i will suggest Changeless and soulless by gail c(something) they are steampunk novels(a new term for me). I really enjoyed them both. they were totally different than what i expected. The new one is out in Sept i believe.

I recently came across these books by Gail Carriger and agree that they’re FANTASTIC! As you said, the two books in the series thus far are:

      Soulless
      Changeless

The next book, Blameless, comes out September 1st as you said. These books represent my first exposure to steampunk and now I’m hooked.

Thanks for the recommendation – I’d forgotten to pre-order Blameless (I’d put it in my “Save For Later” list) but I just added it since it comes out next week.
