Fantasy Book Spotlight: White Trash Zombie Series

If you have been following our site, you know that we are quite excited to have Diana Rowland as our spotlight author this month. She just came out with her fourth book in her Demon series and we spotlighted the entire series last week. But Diana is not someone to just sit back and write only one series, of course not! In addition to that wonderful detective paranormal series, she has a new one with a new “heroine”, if you will. This series also takes place in the south, in fact it feels like it probably isn’t all that far from the county where Kara resides in the Demon series. But Angel is a different kind of gal, in many ways.

My Life as a White Trash Zombie is a really different kind of zombie book. Sure, there have been books telling the story from the Zombie point of view, but I doubt if anyone has written a character quite like Angel. She may at first seem pretty hard core white trash, but as you get to know her, and how she became a zombie, you begin to appreciate just how hard her life has been. And well, now that it is over, since a zombie is actually dead, she seems to be taking things a bit more seriously. But all in all, what I loved about the first book was that as I came to know Angel, I gained respect for her. Sure, she still did some pretty messed up things, and to give her credit she always acknowledges when she messes up. But her travails as a zombie are great adventures, and when she gets involved with dead bodies, unsolved mysteries and more you want to follow along to see how she solves them. And that doesn’t even include the fact that she works in a morgue, which has to be the best place ever for a zombie to work!

Yes there is plenty of gruesome brain eating for those who really need that, but I found myself really getting into the idea of what would I do if I woke up dead? To Angel’s credit she makes the most of it and in the end makes the kind of choices that take the story to a place that is more than just another zombie book. But then, I don’t think Diana Rowland is the kind of author that would write just another zombie book (but that would make a good title, don’t you think?)

The good news is Diana just completed the second book in this series so we should be seeing more of Angel and crew soon. In fact, we needed to push down her guest blog a bit so she could get it completed, so she will be coming to us straight off that book with lots of zombie energy to spare. But to enjoy the second one, you are gonna have to follow our Angel Zombie and her adventures in the first book, My Life as A White Trash Zombie. You are not going to regret this one!
