Betrayal Galore in True Blood Episode 6 – I Got a Right to Sing the Blues

True Blood Season 3 Episode 6 - I Got a Right to Sing the Blues

Matrimony and betrayal are in the air on this episode of True Blood as Russell, the king of Mississippi, asks Sophie Ann, the queen of Louisiana, to marry him. Is there anyone who isn’t getting married this season? Bill and Sookie, Franklin and Tara, and now the king of Mississippi and queen of Louisiana? Well, after seeing this episode, I don’t think Bill and Sookie will be getting married anytime soon – he’s not likely to be up and around for a while and she finds out he’s not all that he pretended to be. Here are some other highlights from Episode 6:

Highlights from Tonight’s Episode

The king drags Sookie back to his house where Bill tries a last ditch effort to save her but Eric intervenes and takes her back to the king…betrayed again! Now they know Bill has not been 100% honest with them. Sookie is so pissed at Eric but he just tells her to shut up, that she means nothing to him. And he looks like he means it when he says it.

Bill is taken to the slave quarters where Lorena chains him to the floor as she pulls out her little bag of torture instruments. She is quite the sadist and she is going to bleed Bill to death. It’s a nasty scene, he’s got pieces missing from him. Cooter and Debbie come in, looking for a little taste of Bill. Gross, Debbie starts licking all over him and they say they are going to turn him into a “fucking raisin”.

Russell wants to know what Sookie is and he’s not above torturing her to get it out of her. She says she’s just a waitress and then she kicks off a game of quid pro quo where they go back and forth on questions to each other. Sookie asks “is Lorena going to kill Bill?” To which the king asks her why does she care? And that’s when he tells her that Bill has been keeping a file on her and her family this whole time. She looks so shocked, you feel sorry for her. Russell says “oh sweetheart, you really don’t know anything do you?”

Arlene tells Jessica “please don’t kill me, I’m pregnant” when Jessica’s teeth pop out after Arlene cuts her hand. Uh-oh, I guess the secret’s out. Jessica puts the whammy on a grouchy customer who was being a bitch at Merlotte’s and she attacks her in the restroom. It looks like Pam’s advice is working – she got her dinner without killing the entree. Jessica is really coming into her own.

Lafayette and Jesus are hanging out together in Lafayette’s super-sports car that Eric gave him. They tell each other deep, dark secrets. These two share a hot kiss in the car, necking like two teenagers. Later, they arrive at Lafayette’s place but are interrupted by some rednecks who are trashing his car. These two kick some redneck ass but Jesus finds out in the process that Lafayette is a drug dealer. Looks like the honeymoon is over.

Tara is still tied to the bed – poor thing, I’d think her circulation would be cut off by now. She’s trying the charming routine on Franklin and it appears to work as he lets her go. She convinces him to let her bite him and she just rips and rips at his throat, digging in hard, it’s pretty nasty to see but Franklin appears to like it. That confirms the fact that he is a psycho.

Eric is doing a great job of charming Russell, he’s suspicious of Eric but seems to be allowing himself to be taken in. In their limo ride to the queen’s house, Russell describes his master plan – kill all the humans. Hmm, I wonder if they’ve thought where their food source will come from if they are successful? The king goes to see the queen and proposes but she rejects him. Eric takes the queen down hard when he realizes that she is the one who framed him with the Magister. He says he is Russell’s now and since Eric is stronger than she is, she agrees to the marriage. I wonder what Talbot will have to say about that!

It’s finally daytime and Tara grabs a mace from the wall and bashes Franklin’s head in. Whoa – it is smashed FLAT. He is going to be so mad at her, if she thought he was psycho before, she hasn’t seen anything yet, I suspect. Tara sneaks into Sookie’s room and they escape Russell’s house. Of course, Sookie won’t leave without Bill so she runs off to to find the slave quarters while Tara calls her an idiot. Sookie finds Bill still alive but then so is Lorena who grabs her and throws her across the room. And with a vicious neck bite from Lorena, this week’s episode ends with a scream.

CAUTION!!! BOOK SPOILERS… SO IF YOU WANT TO BE SURPRISED BY THE BOOKS DONT READ. ONLY SMALL SPOILERS BUT THEY WILL SPOIL SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE IM SURE! (They are juicy spoilers though…if your a curious sort!)

I LOVED! tonight episode. Very funny and a good jumping off point for the mid season climax of next weeks episode.

I especially loved it when Eric finally stood up to Sofie Anne. Her character in the book was far more respectable, so I’m enjoying this less then honorable Sofie Anne getting whats coming to her.

Sookie’s power is growing which I’m excited about. I cant wait to see how Allan makes this new Sookie trait carry forward in the show. In the books she can only hear things, nothing special appears with her gift. So this is very interesting and a nice twist to her Fairy side.

I still think they are advancing the Crystal/Jason relationship far to fast. I know they are taking from the books and creating their own stories form them but their relationship didnt happen until book 5. (the major aspects of it anyway) Its only season 3 and inspired by book 3. So I’m worried they will throw off the other characters development and their relationships, like Quinn and Eric’s plot with Sookie.

The preview for next weeks episode was very curious. It was longer and more involved. It is the mid season climax and with the show only having 6 more episodes of this season they have to cram alot in to the last episodes. I’m feeling a bit rushed this season to be honest. They could do the show so much more justice if they had more then 12 episodes per season. It is surely popular enough to risk more money and time on it. I think in the end the fans suffer because 12 episodes isn’t enough time to tell the story and have the characters grow in the way they need to. Not with the way they have changed the plots so much form the books.

I am hating the reaction form Sookie about Bills betrayal. Hes cheated on her (good intentions or not!) and hes tricked her by spying on her family and lied to her about his real motives. It doesn’t matter if he fell in love with her or not. His very reason for being near her was trickery and manipulation. Of course Sookie being Sookie will save him (as she also does in the books) but if she stays with Bill in the show and forgives him, I will be very put off! I dont care if the producers and writers are trying to keep the “Sookie/Bill fans” following the show. To me that is to far of a change from the original story line for me to not be upset. Bill and Sookie have a 2 book romance, Eric and Sookie have an 8 book romance. Eric is much more apart of her life and who she becomes along the way then Bill is. I mean they are married by book 10 for Christ sake, and madly in love! An if they change that all for ratings…I honestly dont know if I will continue to watch.

I’m excited about next weeks episode but also a bit unimpressed. Eric might want revenge but hes only 1100 years old Russel is almost 3000. That’s a huge difference and I dont think they should try to trick the more gullible viewers into thinking hes just going to be killed or that Bill will be human and withstand the sun light. Its ridiculous for people to think that wasn’t a dream scape scene…..

I dont know…. I just think they are using old fashioned tricks in the preview to get the viewers to tune in, but we are loyal and love the story. I think we would all tune in with out the tricks and scene manipulations. It feels a bit cheesy to me and I’m a tad offended.

But of course because I’m a loyal fan I will tune in! LOL

I cant wait to hear everyone’s different opinions and views about the show. I hope my spoilers didnt take anyone away from reading the books, but if you are upset by them…I warned you in big letters!!! LOL

    Til next week everyone!

Regarding the Sookie/Bill relationship ending, I’m sure the show will honor that, after all in the books, Sookie still had a major thing for him but broke up with him all the same. Also, an Eric/Sookie thing may not happen this season, but will definitely happen in season four, which is when Eric looses his memory and he and Sookie finally start initiating their romance (I doubt HBO would totally remove the losing of memory and witch thing from book four- Dead to the World).

Regarding the preview, yes they at HBO are quite crafty when it comes to misleading the viewer, but I would not be surprised if Eric did kill Russell in the end of this season, which is seeming more and more likely as the season progresses since Russell won’t leave Sookie alone out of greed and Eric’s desire to have vengeance upon his family’s murderer.

Though what mainly caught my attention in the preview was the part when a woman sent a man flying backwards because of light coming from her hands. The woman WAS NOT Sookie, so I am extremely curious who it was. Her mother? Her grandmother? They’ve changed where Sookie gets her fae blood from since they decided that her grandfather (Earl Stackhouse) is the one that passed on the telepathy, so Adele was not unfaithful and did not sleep with a part-fairy. This leaves two options: either Sookie’s grandmother Adele was part fairy or Sookie’s mother was part fairy. Either way, this would give Sookie much more fae blood in her than in the books, which is only 1/16. I can’t wait until next week’s episode, though I suspect that all they showed in the preview will not be addressed then. :(

I agree with you about Erics memory. it was an entire book so they cant not address it as it would throw alot of things off.

I am enjoying what they are doing with Sookie and her Fae blood. They will change the original idea from the books but they are also adding more to it. That makes it more interesting.

I too am excited about the next episode, it will shine some light on the course the plot is taking towards season 4.
